A Jones Day partner appointed partner-in-charge of the firm’s Australia region practice will carry out the role from Los Angeles.
Christopher Lovrien, a trial lawyer in the firm’s business and tort litigation practice, will start in the new role immediately, a Jones Day spokesperson said.
He is a member of the firm’s partnership and advisory committees and served as partner-in-charge of the firm’s five-office California region for five years from 2015. He was also the firm’s partner-in-charge of the Los Angeles Office for four years until 2014.
“Many Australian corporates are global in their reach and Australia is an important market for many of the firm’s American, European, and Asian clients. As the needs of our clients continue to grow, our world-class lawyers in Australia will play an expanding and ever more important role in advancing their interests,” Gregory Shumaker, managing partner of Jones Day, said in a statement.
“Chris has spent his entire career at Jones Day, has demonstrated exceptional regional leadership, and is relentless in pushing the firm’s market-leading, collaborative approach to client service to Australia and across the world,” he added.
Jones Day entered the Australian market in 1998, when it opened in Sydney. The firm now has more than 85 lawyers across four offices located in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. The firm has not responded to questions about why Lovrien will be based in Los Angeles.
