A Slaughter and May London partner has left the firm to join Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, in an extremely rare move.
Robert Chaplin is joining Skadden’s financial institutions group in London, according to a firm statement on Tuesday.
He joined Slaughter and May in 1997 and was promoted to partner in 2006, according to his website profile.
Todd Freed, global co-head of Skadden’s financial Institutions group, said: “We are extremely excited that Robert is joining us. Robert’s arrival creates an opportunity for Skadden to further strengthen our go-to insurance M&A platform in the UK and Europe.”
Chaplin’s notable deal work includes advising U.K. private jet business Signature Aviation on its £3.4 billion takeover by Global Infrastructure Partners and leading the team on a vaccine procurement agreement in Africa in 2021.
Partner exits from Slaughter and May are rare, though London partner Murray Cox joined Weil Gotshal & Manges in 2021.
